Celebrating Inclusion at Melton Carnegie Museum

Melton Carnegie Museum has recently hosted two powerful exhibitions — Villiers Revealed and Villiers Revealed: We Have Always Been Here — and marked their launch with celebratory events that brought the local community together in warmth and solidarity.

From the moment visitors stepped through the doors, they described a feeling of being truly welcomed. The atmosphere was open, relaxed, and deeply respectful, setting the tone for events that honoured hidden histories and diverse voices with care. Attendees noted how inclusive and friendly the space felt, with many staying to share reflections, make connections, and enjoy the opportunity to see themselves — and each other — reflected in the stories on display.

The events featured speakers, performance poets, a DJ, Aida H Dee – Drag Queen Story Hour, community artists, and participants from the Villiers Revealed project who shared personal insights and experiences. Laughter, thoughtful conversations, and moments of quiet recognition were shared throughout, creating a sense of belonging for all who attended.

These events have not only marked the opening of important exhibitions, but also sparked ongoing dialogue around heritage, identity, and visibility. The museum has become a space where everyone — especially those often left out of mainstream histories — can feel seen, valued, and heard.
