Events Assistant for Museums & Heritage

A rare and exciting permanent, full-time opportunity (5 days / 37 hours per week) has arisen to join our Museums & Heritage team in the role of Events Assistant, focusing on assisting our Events Officer with the programming and delivery of a varied range of events and activities that are vital to enhance the daily visitor offer, generate experiences that entice new and return customer visits and provide a positive financial contribution.

We are looking for a friendly and enthusiastic individual to play a key role in supporting the planning, promotion and running of events, across a number of accredited museums and heritage sites in Leicestershire, with a particular focus on Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre and 1620s House & Garden.  This role will suit someone with a passion for events, customer service experience and good communication, research and organisation skills, who is confident in working actively as part of a small team.

The role will offer the successful candidate a hands-on role in the planning, organising, promoting and running of events from small scale crafts and talks to flagship activities like the Bosworth Medieval Festival.  You will be involved in all aspects from idea generation and research to assisting with delivery.  A key aspect of the role will be event promotion, including taking a more direct lead for social media campaigns, defining wider event marketing (both physical and digital) and building a strong relationship with current and new customers through seeking and analysing feedback.

Due to the nature of events delivery, the ideal candidate will be comfortable to work flexibly in support of the events programme, which can include weekend and evening activities.  In addition, the role demands involvement in hands-on, physical support for event set-up.

Here’s a little more about the sites:

Bosworth Battlefield

Set in the heart of the Leicestershire countryside, Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre offers visitors a relaxing and picturesque location to explore one of the turning points of British and Medieval history.  The purpose built, colourful, multi award winning and interactive exhibition centre tells the story of the Battle of Bosworth in 1485, at which King Richard III lost his crown to Henry Tudor, the last time an English King died on the battlefield, starting the infamous and influential dynasty.  But perhaps you won’t know that the site also has a less well-known connection to Roman Britain, with archaeological evidence of a Roman Temple.

The events programme for 2025-2026 saw around 40 events of varied scales, which welcomed over 5,800 visitors and provided both important reasons for customers to travel to the site, as well as making positive financial contribution to the Service.  The events activity covered regular holiday children’s hunts, varied historical talks, popular living history weekends and hands-on children’s workshops like Knight School and Fairy Foraging, through to larger events like outdoor theatre and the very popular, new event, DragonFest.

1620s House & Garden

Officially recognised as a ‘Hidden Gem’ under Visit England’s Attraction Quality Scheme and sitting as one of the scheme’s top scoring attractions, the Manor House is a rare surviving example of a family home, originally built in the 13th century and modernised in 1618.   Today it is fully furnished and styled as an early 17th century house sitting in its beautiful and tranquil grounds, allowing visitors to get hands-on with everything inside to immerse themselves in the lives of a family living in the shadow of the Gunpowder Plot.

The events programme for 2025-2026 saw around 50 events of different sizes, which welcomed over 5,300 visitors and made a significant positive financial contribution for the site.  The events programme ranged from regular holiday children’s hunts, a range of family and adult crafts and living history weekends, through to larger events like outdoor theatre and specialist plant fairs.
