Visioning a Cultural and Creative County (VCCC) Summer Project Day

Bringing together people who would not ordinarily share the same space at the same time to learn and share from each other in a friendly, warm and safe environment brought us greatest satisfaction!

‐ Daniel Mutibwa

On Tuesday 11th July 2023 at the University of Leicester we hosted the Visioning a Creative and Cultural County (VCCC) Summer Project Day in partnership with Nottingham University and Creative Leicestershire. Over seventy volunteers, artists, cultural participation staff, strategic leaders, and academics attended and shared their different expertise, ideas and thoughts. Our aim was to continue the development of a plan, approach or manifesto for the cultural services of Leicestershire County Council within our remit of libraries, museums, collection and learning.

The amazing guest speaker Jon Sleigh shared his professional experience of pioneering work as an LGBTQ + practitioner, Daniel Mutibwa and Dr Sophie Frost shared their findings from the project so far from their local, regional and national research including focus groups, workshops and interviews.
The Anand Mangal Ladies group brought flashes of colour and energy to the day, by performing a lively stick traditional dance.
Afternoon workshops gave everyone a chance to have their say exploring the unique perspectives of strategists, cultural delivery staff, volunteers, participants and creative practitioners.
Artists Indre Rimselyte and Kate Lugar showed their talent through an epic doodle about the day and a collaborative art piece, crafted from the passions and connections of everyone involved.
What a development day with a difference!
