Home Library Service

I’ve always loved reading myself, and it’s a joy and a privilege to be able to carry on this service to people who can no longer come from their own homes into the library. I love visiting my clients and have gotten to know them well and they trust me to pick a good read for them.

When my volunteer has been] I feel a lot brighter, and I feel I can cope… I think that’s because I have been having to use the old brain again… We chat away like old friends even though she is much younger than me. I enjoy her company very much.

Volunteering with the Home Library Service

Our Home Library Service volunteers deliver books to people in their homes who are unable to get into their local library. We currently have over 30 volunteers who dedicate their time, energy and skills to support and help us keep the Home Library Service alive!

In many cases this role extends further than delivering books. Our clients are given the option of a doorstop drop-off or a befriending service, where volunteers stay for a friendly chat. For some people they might be the only visitor they receive during the week, providing an important social connection.

We want to grow our volunteer team! Can you help support people to continue their love of reading from their home?

If your 18 and over, and have a few hours to spare each month then we want to hear from you.
