Community Workshops
Making Leicestershire My Home is a county-wide cultural project exploring the stories, experiences and contributions of people who have made Leicestershire their home, both in the past and today. One branch of this activity is a programme of Cultural Outreach Workshops.
These workshops will be held with communities across the county, we will use museum, archive and local history collections as a starting point for conversations about:
- Home and belonging
- Identity and community
- Migration and movement
- Memories and personal stories
- Connections to places
Through cultural and creative activities, people will have opportunities to share experiences, explore collections and contribute their own perspectives on what it means to make Leicestershire their home.
Community-Led and Co- Created
At the heart of the project is a commitment to listening to and working alongside local people. We believe the stories of Leicestershire are best told by the people who live here.
By taking part in community workshops, people can choose how they would like to get involved. This might include:
- Sharing stories and memories through objects
- Contributing to a digital storytelling map of Leicestershire
- Working with artists
- Volunteering with the project and helping to shape future activities and opportunities You can find out more about our Volunteering Opportunities here: Cultural Workshop Volunteer
Our aim is to create welcoming spaces where people can connect with one another, explore shared experiences and celebrate the diversity of Leicestershire’s communities whilst unlocking untold stories of the county.
We are currently exploring partners in Hinckley, Northwest Leicestershire and Oadby & Wigston to run these outreach sessions with. If you have a group that you think might interested in getting involved with this project, please contact Kirsty Ballard, Email: Kirsty.ballard@leics.gov.uk or call 0116 30 53653
