Welcome to Loughborough Wellbeing Centre

Culture Leicestershire worked in partnership with the ‘Stitching Well’ to co-curate an exhibition by an all-female textiles art group based at the Wellbeing Centre in Loughborough. The group’s Welcome Banner is a colourful exhibition showcasing the development of their latest project – a banner design for the centre. Through their creativity, the group wanted to encourage others needing well-being support to access the services on offer at the centre.
About Loughborough Wellbeing Centre
Loughborough Wellbeing Centre [LWC] is a registered charity and the home of the Wellbeing Cafe Project. They provide a safe supportive space and run a range of activities to support people’s mental health in Charnwood and beyond. LWC aims to support people’s recovery and resilience to mental health issues and encourage a peer support network that will enable them to feel part of the community again. This creative project has involved two creative practitioners working alongside the Stitching Well group to help them co-curate their own exhibition. The welcome banner was designed and stitched by members of the group. Each textile was created in response to the question “what does the Wellbeing Centre mean to you? The banner is now on display in the centre to welcome everyone who comes to our groups and other sessions/activities being held at the centre. The group upcycle and re-use materials wherever possible and this sustainable ethos runs through the core of all of their projects. The exhibition gave the group a platform to raise awareness of the support LWC can provide and let people know that they offer a safe space for people.
