Community Voices
What is Community Voices?
We need to hear the Community Voice so we can make what we offer accessible, meaningful and as inclusive and relevant as possible. Local people volunteer to help shape our events, activities, and opportunities offered by all the teams in Culture Leicestershire. Bringing together people from different backgrounds, perspectives, and interests is invaluable to us because of the diversity of viewpoints it brings.
Hearing from people with varied lived experiences helps us better understand the communities we serve and develop activities that meet the needs of more people.
What do we do with the ideas and opinions?
Feedback helps us understand what connects, what’s important, where barriers exist, and how we can improve. It enables us to create events that feel welcoming, reach new people, and reflect a broader range of perspectives. We particularly welcome contributions from people who do not usually engage with heritage, as fresh insights are essential to our growth.
What do volunteers get out of it?
Community Voices is about more than giving feedback. For many people who get involved, it is a chance to connect with others, explore new perspectives, and try something new. People take part for many reasons, including a love of culture, meeting new people, hearing different viewpoints, being creative, spending time with others, and building confidence.
Making an impact
Our volunteers affect change.
- Young people contributed to our Council-wide environmental plans.
- Shaped Bosworth Medieval Festival 2026. Watch this film to find out how.
- Co-created our Museum and Library plans until 2028 by telling what was a priority for them.
- Helped us plan our new programme of Arts Council funded activity, Making Leicestershire My Home.
- Advise, advocate, champion and challenge as part of our Board.
How to get involved
We regularly open opportunities for new people to join Community Voices. We are looking for individuals who can offer thoughtful, constructive feedback and want to support the development and impact of Culture Leicestershire. A wide range of voices helps us see things differently and ensures our work continues to grow in meaningful ways.
If this sounds like you, we would be delighted to hear from you.
